Pressure Test Valve (PTV)

The Pressure Test Valve (PTV) is designed for pressure testing of drill string in the wellbore. Design features and operating principle: Pressure testing is performed using a pressure-testing body and a pressure plug by gradually increasing internal overpressure in the drill string. Inside the pressure-testing body, a sleeve is held in place by shear pins and seals the bypass (overflow) port in the valve body. During running in, the valve remains open: the sleeve is secured by shear pins but does not obstruct flow. Once the PTV is positioned at the required depth, a pressure plug is pumped down and lands in the tool. When the preset overpressure (typically 200–260 atm, adjustable per customer request) is reached, the pins are sheared, releasing the sleeve and opening the bypass port, equalizing internal drill string pressure with annular pressure.
